On March 21st, CNTY CEO Cao Debiao and Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy of the Maldives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on jointly addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development, energy transition, environmental protection, circular economy, and low-carbon city development.
At the invitation of the Maldivian side, CEO Cao Debiao led a delegation to the Maldives starting from March 17th. During the visit, CEO Cao Debiao called on the Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, and met successively with leaders of the Maldivian central and local governments, including Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, Mayor of Malé Adam Azim, and Mayor of Addu Ali Nizar. CEO Cao Debiao also called on the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin. In addition, the delegation held working meetings with Maldivian enterprises including State Electric Company Limited and Waste Management Corporation, and also exchanged views with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in the Maldives. This visit enabled the delegation to conduct in-depth field research on the environmental services and new energy market in the Maldives, and inspect the waste-to-energy (WtE) project under construction on Thilafushi Island and the WtE project in Addu City.
